Fix for Minimize/Maximize/close button order in Ubuntu 10.04

In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, the Maximize, Minimize and close buttons are kept left side of the windows. Few users may not like it (including myself), to fix this we can use one of the following two methods,

  1. Press Alt+F2 to launch Run application window
  2. Run gconf-editor to launch the application
  3. In gconf-editor, navigate to apps -> metacity -> general
  4. Change the value of button_layout from "close, minimize, maximize:" to ":minimize, maximize, close"
  5. This will change the buttons to right side

The second easiest method is to use Ubuntu Tweak.

  1. Download the .deb file of Ubuntu Tweak from its website
  2. Install the package
  3. Launch the application from Applications -> System Tools -> Ubuntu Tweak
  4. Under Desktop, Select Window Manager Settings and change the value to "Right" in "Window Titlebar Button Layout"
  5. This will change the buttons to right side
